Guiding Principles for Ensuring Well-being in Cities is the outcome of a research-based project conducted by the Centre for Spatial Justice (MAD). The research aimed to explore what it means to achieve well-being in the built environment, in light of architecture and urbanism.
The book consists of articles, interviews, statistics and case studies accompanied by maps, diagrams and photographs. Despite being written in a thesis-like academical fashion, the design brief was to design a print that would be both easy and also fun to read. It was intended as a guidebook for municipalities, scheduled to be sent before the recent elections. And, the bureaucrats wouldn’t have much time to read through the whole book. With that in mind, the design had to have an easy and welcoming feel to it, which would let the reader understand, in advance, that they wouldn’t have to spare so much time reading.
