Center for Spatial Justice is an NGO focusing on urbanism and sociology on a larger scale. Amongst many other things, they publish books and reports on issues regarding urbanism and ecology. On some occasions they collaborate with other NGO’s and academics to prepare such publications. This report book is one of such collab’s.

The report book, published by Public Expenditures Monitoring Platform (KAHİP) focuses on the changes in local municipalities’s budgets in the aftermath of the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria back in 2022.

Although the book design is not made by me, I was tasked with coming up with social media images that promote the contents of the book. I was tasked to create infographics and diagrams that would best represent the data from the book.

The book presents lots of numeric data, as well as intricate legal information, which can be difficult to understand for the common reader. Therefore, I devised a plan to select the highlights from the book and simplify them. The first step of such simplification was to curate and reduce the data from the book to smaller bits of infographics and diagrams that are easier to chew. Keeping in mind that almost most people did not have the time to read through the whole report book, I came up with a series of images that summarizes the highlights from it. Another maneuver was to make it so appealing to the eye that viewers would want to reshare the images on their own social media profiles. In doing so, we aimed for an organic and wide spread growth.

Upon releasing the images on social media, they were reshared by many people. I believe we raised quite an awareness regarding the contents of the book.
