Urban Well-being, a long-run semi-academical project by Center for Spatial Justice (MAD), was completed by the end of 2024. The project had several outcomes, few of which were the Policy Notes. The policy notes, each focusing on a different aspect of urban well-being, were intended as guide books for those who had a say in shaping out future cities, such as municipality bureaucrats, academics, activists etc.

I was commissioned by MAD to create the designs for the policy notes. Initially, the books were not planned to be printed. However MAD still wanted to make sure that if they were to print the books one day, it should be affordable and easy. So we went for a simple design in A4 dimensions.

Each policy note has a different color scheme. The colors were picked from the Urban Well-being Project’s overall color palette, implying that the policy notes were in fact focusing on rather specific aspects of a greater amorphous landscape.

One of the primary principles I had while designing the notes, was to make the notes as easy to read as they can be. Instead of ornamentation and intricate details, I aimed at a simpler reading experience that would be rather less of a burden.
